“Take advantage of corrections in the market to increase equity exposure”

The CAC 40 can expect another positive year, believes Jean-Charles Gand, according to his interpretation of price movements. An important correction in the second semester could open up new opportunities.

Market strategist for BBSP, an independent financial research firm, Jean-Charles Gand is also the General Secretary for l’AFATE, the French Association for Technical Analysts. Former Head of Technical analysis at Société Générale Asset Management, he is one of the most frequently cited technical analysts in Paris.

Le Figaro Bourse – A year ago, back when the CAC 40 was at the 3500 point-mark, you told us to expect a level close to 4000 points and recommended taking advantage of correction periods to invest. What are your current objectives and strategy?

I remain very optimistic this year with regards to the perspectives of the stock markets and in particular the CAC 40 Index. I anticipate a first target of 4400 points, that is to say a potential increase of 15%, this is a conservative hypothesis. If I were to be more generous, I would put a second target at 4800 points, a potential increase of 25% based on the current level (3800).

My strategy remains the same as in 2012, to take advantage of corrections in the market to reinforce my equity exposure. I’m anticipating a major buying opportunity in the second half of the year... Click below for full article.
